As Jordan and I have been preparing for conference this week we have mostly been focusing on ourselves. We have not watched any movies, tv shows, been on Facebook, listened to music (unless it was church music), read our scriptures more consistently and really work on our prayers. We have lots of answers we are hoping to find or help with for conference so we have been working hard to prepare ourselves.
Yesterday I realized that it might be harder than I thought to pay attention to conference. David is a busy body and will get so bored and probably cranky if he has to listen to conference for two days straight. So I have searched the internet for help and even come up with a few things myself. Jordan and I read a talk that was given in an ensign in 2009 about how to prepare our children for conference. I can't for the life of me remember which one it is in or who it was by but it was good. It didn't seem to help us much because it was geared toward older children but still a great talk to read!! I found some great blogs that had ideas on what to do as well as going from the article. Traditions was a big one to get family excited. Some traditions were food, games or activities they did between sessions or for FHE. They talked about it being a big family weekend and having everything done and prepared by Friday night so that general conference weekend is not interrupted by shopping or homework. Luckily for Jordan and I, we are both here with nothing else going on so that should be easy to do.
One of the blogs I found had some great ideas about things to do for toddlers. An idea was having little activities to do during each talk and then reuse these activities the next day. Others were making sure to get wiggled out between sessions. This weekend is Easter so getting wiggled out might be pretty easy with coloring Easter eggs on Saturday and finding them on Sunday. We have also been trying to come up with about 15 to 20 activities to pull out during each of the talks. I came up with a list this morning but I wanted to try one out to see how David would like it. I haven't done a lot of things like this with him but now I definitely want to do more because it was so fun watching him. I have a bunch of ribbons that I have saved since Jordan and I have been married from wedding gifts, bridal shower gifts, baby shower gifts, and even from some weddings. So I grabbed an old wipes container and gathered all the ends and stuck them through the top and and closed the lid. I wanted to see if David would actually try pulling them out and he did. He loved it!! I am even more excited to finish other activities for this weekend. Jordan thinks he will have a hard time paying attention now because he will just want to play. Hopefully it goes as well as we hope it will.
